Scheduled EMS System Upgrade – September 16

The EMS system will undergo a scheduled upgrade on Tuesday, September 16, and will be unavailable from 6:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM. During this time, users will not be able to access EMS services.

Following the upgrade, a new web client will be required for continued access. Users will need to install this client manually. Additional instructions and installation files will be made available to relevant user groups.

Update: ITS has resolved most of the issues that have been reported to us. This includes centrally scheduled computer labs, classrooms, and smart classrooms. We anticipate additional cases to trickle in as people return to the office and get closer to the start of the Fall semester.

Overnight a problematic update was pushed out worldwide by Crowdstrike, the product used by SIUE and many other companies, to protect computers from malicious actors. Unfortunately, this update caused many Windows computers to crash. In some cases, restarting the computer can resolve the issue. We are aware of some server outages and will be working through them as fast as we can.

Update: Zoom has fixed the issue on their end and logging into Zoom via a web browser is now functional again.

Zoom is currently experiencing a major outage across the eastern half of the US this morning, including access to SIUE’s Zoom meeting system.

Currently, after logging in, you’ll experience either a message about “billing issues” or not having a “zuora account”. This is a problem on Zoom’s side and we’re currently waiting for resolution; however, logging in and using any of the desktop clients or smartphone apps to join a meeting works without incident, though you will need to know your meeting ID.

9/5/18: Microsoft has removed the issue and is reporting that the problems should be fixed.

Users may be unable to access or use some features within the Office 365 service. We’ve determined that a data center issue caused a subset of the Office 365 service to become degraded. We’re connecting some of the affected services to an alternate infrastructure, while remediating the underlying issue within the data center. Impact is specific to a subset of users who are served through the affected infrastructure.

ITS has received a large number of reports from students receiving an error message when attempting to log into Blackboard. One cause of this problem has been traced to students using a secondary login page via a Google search to access Blackboard. When students afterwards attempt to access Blackboard via the main login page (https://bb.siue.edu), they receive the error message. ITS has contacted the vendor and they are investigating the issue.

Until a resolution is found, students can clear their browser cache to remove the element that is causing the error. Instruction on clearing the cache are available at: http://bit.ly/1jD85EF Restarting your browser after clearing your cache is strongly encouraged.

Students are being directed to the secondary login page via a Google search for SIUE Blackboard. SIUE is experiencing an unknown power outage at the Alton School of Dental Medicine campus. This has caused the Network and Phone system to go out of service. As soon as the power is restored SIUE ITS will work on restoring the Network and Phone system.

We are experiencing a network outage in the Engineering and Art and Design buildings due to a possible power issue. We are working to resolve the issue and hope to restore service as soon as possible.

UPDATE: A new chiller has been installed and everything is “cool.” All services have been restored.

ITS experienced a cooling issue in our secondary server building overnight, requiring us to shut down several services. We are working with Facilities Management to correct the issue and will restart the services as soon as possible. Email, Blackboard, and CougarNet are not a part of this outage.

ITS is planning on performing maintenance on AM-Prod this Sunday morning, 06/18/17 from 8:30am – 11:30am. BANPROD as well as the normal Banner Production Schedule will be unaffected by this outage.

SIUE ITS will be migrating the main login page https://itsvpn.siue.edu/ from Duo to Microsoft two-factor authentication on Tuesday 23 May 2017 at 9:00am. You will need to enroll your smartphone by visiting https://mfa.siue.edu/ from a Desktop computer web browser. Enter your eID and password, then follow the steps as prompted to complete enrollment in the Microsoft two-factor authentication application.
